My background in commercial banking, finance, marketing and general management at the CEO level in three privately held companies has equipped me with the ability to explain and convey complex financial matters in layman’s terms and with high audience retention.
An honors graduate of Bellarmine University, I began a 22 year career in banking with First National Louisville, Citibank in New York and J. Walter Thompson in Atlanta (bank marketing) arriving in Lexington in 1986. In 1989 I executed a turn-around plan for Interspace Limited, and served as President through 2004 when it was successfully sold. In 1991 I organized an investor group to acquire a Lexington based wholesale distributor and served as CEO of this business for the next 16 years, growing it in three states from $8MM in sales to $22MM. In 1995 I joined with several other shareholders in forming Mountain Metals Manufacturing and served as Secretary and board member through a successful exit in 2006. MMMC reached a revenue peak of $30MM spread over eleven states.
For the wholesale distributor we developed a market differentiation strategy including my conducting basic financial seminars for our retail entrepreneurial customers. This seminar has been enhanced over the years and presented to various groups in Lexington including Commerce Lexington and the Gatton School at University of Kentucky. For the last three years I have been a Financial Analyst for UK’s Innovation & Commercialization Center.
I have had the pleasure of serving as Chairman, Lexington Board of Economics America, Chairman, Council of Smaller Enterprises of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, Board member of Lexington Forum, Board member and Past Chairman of the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce.
I am married to Anne Gordon Steele.
